Spring 2019 Graduate Student Orientations

Welcome to Mason! As the new academic year begins, George Mason University offers several orientation and welcome programs for new and returning graduate and professional students. Graduate Student Life has compiled orientation schedules from many of Mason’s graduate academic units. They are listed below: please click on the college/school that houses your department; college/school-level events are listed first, followed by departments in alphabetical order. If you have questions about an orientation program, please contact the person or email listed.

If you do not see your department listed, please contact your department directly to inquire if an orientation is planned. A list of graduate programs is available here (select Graduate Studies).

College of Humanities and Social Sciences

Higher Education Program (HEP)
HEP Spring Orientation

This orientation is for newly admitted Master’s and Doctoral students in the Higher Education Program.

Master of Science (MS) in Criminal Justice
MS in Criminal Justice New Student Orientation
Date: 01/17/2019
Time: 8:30am-2:00pm
Location: Fenwick Library, Room 1014B (Fairfax Campus)

The department will hold a mandatory orientation session for incoming graduate students. The main purpose of the orientation is to help create a sense of community among the spring 2019 cohort members. It will involve organized activities, and it will provide key information about the MS program. It would also include an opportunity to interact with a visiting speaker as part of the MS signature Speaker Series. This series provides MS students with a unique opportunity to interact with (and learn from) an important leader in the criminal justice system.

Master of Arts (MA) in Sociology Program
MA in Sociology Orientation

Schar School Master’s New Student Orientation

Schar Master’s New Student Orientation provides important information about academic and professional development resources for graduate students, alongside graduate program policies & procedures. Master of Science in Technology Management
Program Immersion
Date: 01/12/2019
Time: 7:30am-4:30pm
Location: Founders Hall, Room 113, (Arlington Campus)

The MS in Technology Management program immersion will be held on Saturday, January 12th, at the Arlington campus (Founders Hall, room 113). Check in and breakfast will be from 7:30 am to 8:30 am. The event will end at 4:00 pm.

School of Conflict Analysis and Resolution (SCAR)

Spring Graduate Student Orientation

Our Student Orientation is for newly admitted students in our S-CAR graduate programs for the Spring 2019 semester. This required event will give admitted students the chance to meet faculty, staff, and fellow students in addition to learning more about their academic program.

International Student Orientation

Join us to learn important information as a new international graduate and professional student at Mason and network with other students. This orientation is REQUIRED for new international students in F-1 and J-1 status: Doctoral students, Master’s students (new and transfer), and INTO Mason Graduate Pathway students
