We Cannot Stress Enough How Important It Is to De-Stress!October 3, 2018
By Sophie Gorshenin
Pumpkin spice is back in season, fall festivals across NOVA are in full swing, and it’s almost cool enough for sweater weather. Fall is a beautiful season and is one to be celebrated as the leaves begin to change, and yet, as I sit here sipping my coffee with extra pumpkin spiced whipped cream, I can’t help but think about all the looming and upcoming deadlines for all of my papers and exams. For most people who aren’t students, fall is the best time of the year. However, for us mortal graduate students it’s often the most stressful times of the year and is better known to many of us as midterm season.
What is midterm season you ask? You know those two stressful weeks filled with deadlines preparing twenty-page papers or studying for one-hundred question exams? That time of year when it seems like every one of your student colleagues, including yourself is completely overwhelmed and maybe stretched a little extra thin? Sound familiar?
Feeling stressed is inevitable, and in grad school it affects all of us, no matter how much whipped cream we consume to make ourselves feel better. However, on both the Arlington and Fairfax campuses there is an amazing tool that is open to all students to help us combat our stress. Behold, the MindSpa! University Life Arlington just opened their MindSpa in Founders Hall last week, and I cannot tell you how incredible the MindSpa experience is!
The MindSpa is a space and resource that is available to help you relax, improve your concentration and memory, and support your overall well-being! The space is equipped with a massage chair, soft lighting, relaxing music, and fun mindful games such as: coloring sheets, water beads, and Zen gardens. The new MindSpa in Arlington is open Monday through Thursday; 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Twenty minute sessions are available for you to destress and have all of your worries drift away. To book your session click here! The MindSpa is also available at the Fairfax Campus, and is located within the Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) suite in SUB 1, 3129. You can schedule your 30 minute session for the Fairfax MindSpa either by calling 703-993-2380 or signing up online here. It is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM. So reserve your appointment and destress today!
